2 May 2010 Everlast Welder Review. Click here

I will post my long term results, and also the cart once its built.

22 May 2010 Cart
Cart is finally done. I must confess its mig'ed together in the interest of speed and getting it done. I used the plasma cutter to cut the tank bracket. I also put the electrical receptacles inside the shelf area. Yellow cord is 10 ga 20 feet and I shortened the welder cord to about 2 feet
Update on the welder, no issues so far, I used it recently to weld some small steel car parts together and the used the plasma cutter to cut a few brackets. And, have been practicing my tig welding time permitting. That tank was about  1/2 full when I started, its almost empty now.
The blue mesh keeps the tank from clanking, ask your tank supplier for a piece.

6 June 2010  Everlast Water Cooler
I cut a large hole in the bottom shelf of the cart for the drain cap on the cooler, easier to wrestle it out of there when its empty. For now its filled with tap water in case of leaks, and sure enough the torch seeped a few drops of water, have to take it apart and take a look.

I have some Anchor  blue coolant to put in it later. Cheap and works well.  Good  to 19 degrees F, so if you live at the North Pole you may not want to use this stuff. There is also a red coolant for more money, but it is good to almost zero.

The torch hose is just a foot too short. Lowes has some braided 3/16 ID back fuel line which is a close match to the torch hose. I used SS safety wire for clamps -- good to go. Be sure to file the sharp ends.  Next time I order from McMaster I may get some pinch clamps to make it look better

I cut the cord to about 2 feet as with the welder and attached a plug. The water cooler is just as loud, if not louder than the welder, need earplugs along with a welding helmet. I ran a few beads with it and it seemed to work well, the torch did not heat up at all

6 June 2010  Duty Cycle Chart

I found a formula for duty cycle interpretation on Ezine and created the chart to the right. Its give a truer picture of the welder's capabilities. It assumes the max duty cycle is the same for all three functions.

25 June 2010  Replacement Torch
Everlast sent a new torch to replace the leaky one. I was pretty disappointed when I got it. It could not have been a new torch, but one that was laying around. The torch was  the same model  but the the rubber connector covers were missing, the water line fittings on the welder connector came off at an angle vice parallel to the hose, and the blue handle looked like had been assembled by a 2 year old, it was not assembled correctly and one of the screw heads was stripped out.  In addition the gas fitting had to be moved to the correct line. Anyway,  Its a good thing they let me keep the old torch, because I used some parts from the old torch to patch it up a little and it works fine.

3 July 2010   Hi Freq Failure
Went to get caught up on several overdue projects over the weekend and the hi-freq start has failed. I can scratch start both the plasma torch and TIG though if need be. Have not been able to get in touch with anyone yet at Everlast because of the holiday.

7 July 2010   Troubleshooting
I was able to get in touch with Mike at Everlast, we adjusted the gap on the hi freq points inside the unit and checked a few other things. The spark jumps the gap and you can see it, but no pilot arc or hi freq at any of the torches.
Here's a few pictures of its internals. The hi frequency points are under the board to the front of the unit in the first picture - behind the red wires attached to the front of the board, the points are not visible in the picture.

9 July 2010   Sent Back
Its on its way back to California for replacement - $75 to return it via FedEx - insured for the full amount of course - with my luck it would get lost on the way back. Good thing I kept the original box - on a whim I tossed it in the attic.

9 Aug 2010  New Welder
Received the new welder today, the only function I was able to try was the plasma cutter as I have a need for it on a project for my front end loader. It seems to be working well. Kudos to Everlast for getting  a replacement machine out to me
