Parking Brake
8 Oct 05

I had every intention of following  FFRs instructions on running the parking cables under the round tube and then to the brake handle. I even added a rub pad on the tube. That is, until I connected everything and pulled on the handle -- I did not like the way it felt.

After doing some checking, I decided to do the pivot mod popular on the FFCorba forum, thanks to whoever came up with this idea! I designed a pivot assembly in Pro-E Desktop

The assembly consists of several bushings, a pivot arm, cable blocks, and a trunion block to connect the brake cables.

We also did the handle modification that keeps the auto-slack adjuster from taking up the slack in the cables and causing the disk brake pads to rub. I think this is only necessary on rear disk brake equipped cars.

Cut the cable with a oxy-acy torch, it will melt the ends and keep it from fraying.  The melted ends were touched up with a sander and a little red shrink wrap tubing covers them.

I wanted a little adjustability in the cables without having to loosen the setscrews holding them in the trunion block. The threaded rod is about 4" long; this should give a little adjustment once the cables stretch. We placed the swing arm towards the inside because we moved the rear of the handle towards the center of the car to clear the seat. All indications are it should just clear the transmission.

The assembly got a little polishing and we're done!
