Here the car gets a coat
of Eastwood's Bloxide weld thru primer on the body and a
coat of Silver Rust Bullet elsewhere. Eventually we will
spray the undercarriage and frame with black rust bullet.
7 June 08 - Roll Cage and Frame
The interior and undercarriage
has been sprayed with Black Rust Bullet. Here we have welded
in the frame connectors.
The 10 point roll cage has
been installed and weld in place. It mounts to key cross
members and near the shock towers in the trunk.
30 June 08 - Front Suspension
The real reason to
take the front suspension apart was to get at the motor
mount bolts. They were no accessible any other way. While
its apart, I may install poly bushings.
13 July 08 - Front Suspension Cont.
New solid motor mounts are
in, I also drilled the 4th hole and added the 4th bolt.
The car comes from the factory with only 3 bolts in each
mount.
New Energy Suspension poly
bushings ready to go in. I followed the procedures in the
Nov 2007 issue of Chevy High Performance magazine
to install them. I also tack welded the sleeves into
control arm. One thing not mentioned in the magazine article
is that GM requires the inner lip of the smaller bushing
to be flared slightly.
New lower control arm bushings
in place. It was a lot of work and required some fabrication
to get the new bushings installed. The arms also got new
ball joints.
Top arm before and after
pictures.
I changed over to a manual
steering box from Unisteer, now I just have to get the right
Pitman arm, the new UniSteer manual box output shaft is
1" x 36 spline, while the older power steering box is 1
1/4 in diameter
20 Sep 08 - Front Suspension Cont.
New Competition Engineering
drag shocks installed! There are adjustable and I set them
to the 90/10 setting.
New drill and slotted rotors
and wheel bearings go in. Bendix low dust titanium brake
pads
New UniSteer manual steering
box and pitman arm. The stock steering shaft bolts right
up.
